My dream has always been to have a farm at the beach. You can be a farmer and a beach bum at the same time…
I don’t have my farm yet so the next best thing is to visit a place that can offer me both, farm life and the beach. That is exactly what you will get at Galjoenswaai, the best of both worlds. Galjoenswaai is on the farm Wamakersvlei and part of 3 authentic veewagters (shepherds) cottages that were recently restored.
Galjoenswaai is nestled on top of the dunes and a short stroll to the water’s edge. The cottage is fully equipped with all the luxuries to have a fabulous time. Enjoy a leisurely cuppa on the veranda surrounded by the best nature can offer, the see and unspoiled habitat. At night stargazing is highly recommended next to the fire.
You can spend your days in total bliss exploring the 400 ha unspoiled wilderness by foot or mountain bike, or maybe you would rather take a gentle stroll along the 7km coastline, it is up to you. Remember to stop and “smell the roses” but in this case the ocean and fynbos and keep a lookout for the wild/sea life.
At springtime, you can enjoy the glorious beauty of the blooming Sandveld wildflowers, which form part of the unique Cape Floral Kingdom, one of the six floral kingdoms in the world.
Wamakersvlei is galjoen-rich waters but you will also find Harders and Wit Steenbras. For those fishermen out there, you can always try your hand in catching Galjoen, Harders or Wit Steenbras. Apparently, it takes quite a bit of skill to catch Galjoen. Something about centrifugal force, sinkers, bait hooks onto a piece of rope, whirled around, release between the second and third waves made my head spin, so I’ll stick to the beach.
Off the grid
Wamakersvlei Beach Farm is environmentally conscious and they strive to have as little impact as possible on the environment. Only solar power and gas for warm water
Farm meets Beach
You will have the best of both worlds. No need to choose if you want to go to the farm or the beach! Remember to bring your bikes and keep a lookouk for the beauty around you.
Dwarskersbos is close to all kinds of different coastal towns. In a 40min radius you can enjoy a relaxing road trip to Paternoster, Saldanha, Langebaan, Elands Bay, Aurora and many more precious gems.
